Koulibaly explained Lukaku's failure in Chelsea

The Belgian star returned to Serie A in the summer and will play for Inter.

Kalidou Koulibaly

has claimed that

Romelu Lukaku

's low self-confidence is the reason he failed to return to

Chelsea

.

Lukaku left Inter for 97.5 million pounds last summer and returned to Chelsea but failed to perform well at Stamford Bridge and returned to Inter on loan after a year. Koulibaly and Lukaku have faced each other in Serie A and the Senegalese defender, who left Napoli for Chelsea after eight years, explained his reasons for Lukaku's failure at Stamford Bridge.

He said:

"Romelu is a good player, a nice player, a talented player.

"He is very strong and I was used to playing against him in Italy – I think he didn’t like to play against me!"

"He scored a lot of goals in Italy and he won the Scudetto with Inter, so when he signed for Chelsea I was not surprised.

"Last year I think maybe he didn’t have the confidence he needed to play like he wanted. Maybe something else, I don’t know.

"Football is not all about the pitch, it is also your private life and everything else, so maybe it was something that didn't work with him over here."
