Chelsea: Raheem Sterling reveals Thomas Tuchel's role in Man City move
Raheem Sterling has said that he joined Chelsea because he wanted to help the team get back to the top of the Premier League.
The
England
player spent seven trophy-filled seasons with
Manchester City, where he won four
Premier League
titles as part of one of the best club teams in English football history. Earlier this summer, he signed a £47.5 million deal to join Chelsea.
, now owned by
Todd Boehly
, is trying to take City's place as champion, and Sterling couldn't pass up the chance to join them. "The fact that you guys have been in four or five finals in the last two years, that you've made progress, won the Champions League, and are now trying to challenge for the Premier League interested me," he told Chelsea TV.
"When I saw where you guys were going, I liked it and thought it was a place where I could come into my own. I think it's an excellent place for me to be. The club already has a winning attitude, but I think top managers like Thomas [Tuchel] keep doing it yearly, win more trophies, and build on their previous performance. It's not like we win once and then take a break next year. We win over and over again, which makes me happy to be here.
Sterling also talked with manager
Thomas Tuchel
about how he gets along with other players. "You can see how accurate [Tuchel] was and how much he wanted me here, and that was the clincher for me. I knew this was the place I wanted to be.
"I know a few of the national team boys. Mase [Mason Mount] and Chilly [Ben Chilwell], to name a couple, and I already have a good relationship with Callum [Hudson-Odoi]. I already feel like I belong there, and I need to keep working hard and can't wait to get along even better with them."
"It's been a great first week. I'm getting used to everything, and I now feel like I'm at home. I want to thank the fans for making me feel so welcome. I'm having a great time. I know I have a lot more to give. I still feel like there's another step I've been trying to get to, and I think this is the perfect place for me to do that.
"I hope to be able to do that in person at the Bridge for many years to come, and I'll just keep scoring goals, plain and simple."
