City's Zack Steffen to spend next season on loan at Middlesbrough
Despite contributing to Manchester City's Carabao Cup glory, the USA goalkeeper Zack Steffen will spend the next season on loan at Middlesbrough. The USA international joined Manchester City from Columbus Crew in 2019.
officially confirmed that they have agreed on a loan deal with Middlesbrough as Zack Steffen has joined the Championship outfit on a season-long loan.
The United States international joined the
Premier Leaguegiants in 2019 and was aware that he would be a backup behind Ederson. He was first sent away on a loan spell to Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf. The 21-time capped United States international has kept eight clean sheets for City in all competitions since joining in 2019, of which nine of them were for Pep Guardiola's team last season as he also made his Champions League debut in the only continental tournament he played for the Citizens so far.
"It's a big coup for us, so I'm delighted we've brought Zack in,"
Middlesbroughboss Wilder said.
"Everyone knows his situation, he needed to play because of the World Cup.
"He had an agreement with Man City, but he could have easily stayed there and sat comfortably as their number two. He wanted to go out and he's agreed to come here."
Steffen has 29 senior caps for his country as the last of them was a 2-0 loss to Costa Rica in March. Middlesbrough will kick-start their Championship campaign against West Bromwich Albion on July 30.
