Valencia part ways with Bordalas as Gattuso's arrival is imminent

Gennaro Gattuso is likely to supplant Jose Bordalas as Valencia's new manager, one of the most precarious managerial positions in LaLiga.

Valencia

have announced the departure of head coach Jose Bordalas, paving the door for Gennaro Gattuso's entrance.

Gattuso, the former manager of

Serie A

sides Milan and Napoli, is largely anticipated to take over at Mestalla.

Bordalas, who had signed a two-year contract with Valencia in May 2021, left after just one season.

In a statement, the club said: "Valencia CF announce the conclusion of Jose Bordalas' tenure as first team coach.

"The club would like to thank him for his work, effort and dedication during his time in charge of Valencia CF, in which the team qualified for the Copa del Rey final, and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors."

As reports of substantial interest in selecting Gattuso surfaced, the departure was unavoidable.

Valencia chairman Peter Lim picked the 58-year-old Bordalas to replace Javi Gracia, who became the 11th manager to quit the

LaLiga

club in nine years.

Bordalas led Valencia to a ninth-place finish in the competition, and they lost the Copa del Rey final against Real Betis in a penalty shootout in April.

Bordalas expressed his dissatisfaction with his position before a match against Athletic Bilbao in early May, claiming that Valencia needed to bring in talented players rather than sell their finest stars.

The news of his departure comes at a difficult moment for the two-time Champions League finalists.

Valencia announced the departure of president Anil Murthy this week, noting that the club needs "regain the faith of the supporters."

The 49-year-old has been mired in controversy since April, when a guy claiming to be Murthy threatened to "destroy" Carlos Soler's reputation in the press if the playmaker did not sign a new deal, according to recordings obtained by Superdeporte.

Valencia did not dispute that Murthy was the person depicted, but claimed that the claims were part of a smear effort against the club, claiming that the tapes were "taken out of context from a private conversation and taped illegitimately without the president's authorization."

Murthy was also the subject of death threats, which the club reported to police earlier this month.
