Turkish club Goztepe deny Abramovich takeover talk

Turkish side Goztepe has denied reports Roman Abramovich has taken over the Super Lig club.

Talat Papatya has responded to reports The Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is on the brink of agreeing on a deal to buy the club.

Papatya told DHA:

"Abramovich did not reach out and talk to anyone to take over the club. No such thing.

“We read in the media that Abramovich took over the club. It doesn't matter. We will make the necessary announcement when the talks on these issues reach a certain maturity.”

The 55-year-old Russian oligarch has severed ties with

Chelsea

after the

Premier League

ordered him to stop running the club and sell up after he was sanctioned by the British government over Russia's war on Ukraine and his close links to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Goztepe returned to the Turkish top flight, the Super Lig, for the first time in 14 years in 2017, but is currently in the relegation zone.

Goztepe was purchased by Mehmet Sepil for $7.5 million in 2014.
