Egypt FA wants Queiroz to stay - Assistant coach

Roger De Sa, Egypt's assistant coach, claimed that the

Football Association Wants to keep Carlos Queiroz.

In September last year, Queiroz was elected head coach of the Egyptian national team, replacing Hossam El-Badry. One of his first decisions was to select Roger De Sa, the South Africa's Umoya United FC coach as his assistant. The two were able to reach the semi-finals of the Arab Cup in Qatar with the Pharaohs and win silver medal in the Africa Cup of Nations. However, Egypt failed to qualify for the World Cup and Queiroz resigned after losing to

in the play-offs. However, the Egyptian Football Association did not agree to his resignation and De Sa is sure that Egypt wants to continue working with the Portuguese coach.

He told

:

“We will know in a couple of days whether the federation is keen to keep us on board. Carlos did say that he was resigning but it has not been accepted.

“I’m certain that they want us to stay

“Considering the difficult circumstances. We lost eight defenders and had to go with our ninth-choice defender at some stage.

“We held our own against a very strong and competitive Senegal team. Except for one, all their players are playing in the UEFA Champions League for the biggest teams in the world.

“We only have one or two players in the Champions League.

“We played 21 matches in six months and lost three games. We are now number four on the Africa rankings just after superpowers Senegal, Morocco, and Nigeria."
