Benitez explained Liverpool win against Milan in 2004 CL final

The Reds won one of the most dramatic Champions League titles under the Spanish coach.

Former

Liverpool

boss Rafa Benitez explains how the team won the 2004 Champions League in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

In his first season at Anfield, the Spanish coach led the team to its fifth European Championship and one of the most dramatic finals. While between the two halves,

Milan

was ahead by 3 goals, but in the second half, they conceded three goals in 6 minutes and in the penalties, Liverpool won the title. Now Benitez recalls the memories of that exceptional meeting.

“It was the most incredible and exciting match in the history of the Champions League.

“You can win the cup beating your opponents 5-0, but you’d never what we felt that night. When we walked into the dressing room at half time, we could hear our fans singing to support us.

“That love motivated us to go back into the pitch and turn the game around. We scored three goals in six minutes and you know how the penalty shootout ended.”

Benitez was at Liverpool for the next four years, but failed when he was expected to achieve great success with the team.
