Palmeiras book a place in the final after Veiga and Dudu’s goals

After exiting the FIFA Club World Cup in the semi-final stage last year, Palmeiras did not make any mistake this time around when they vanquished Al Ahly.

Raphael Veiga

and

Dudu

netted a goal and contributed an assist each as

Palmeiras

beat

Al Ahly

2-0 in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup.

After being defeated at the hands of Tigres UANL in the semi-finals last year before being beaten in the third-place game by Al Ahly, it is a relief as Palmeiras made their way to the final.

Veiga netted the first goal before the end of the first half and provided an assist for Dudu to make their lead double in the second half of the game. They will now face either Chelsea or

Al-Hilal

in the final.

Al Ahly were without some crucial players, but they put Amr Al Soleya in the starting XI notwithstanding the midfielder featuring in the Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday.

He made two attempts but they came after Dudu contributed an assist to Veiga’s goal in the 39th minute.

Veiga returned the favor when he sent Dudu to score a goal at the beginning of the second half.

Mohamed Sherif found the target after Dudu’s goal but it was ruled out as offside.

Al Ahly had their seventh appearance at the Club World Cup, but they have not yet reached the final of the tournament as they have been defeated in their last four semi-final games now (2006, 2012, 2021 and 2022).

Palmeiras will now lock horns with the winner of the clash between Chelsea and Al-Hilal, while Al Ahly will take on the loser for the third-place playoff that day.
