Gasperini delighted to end a week of uncertainty with a 6-2 win

The Atalanta boss was delighted to finish a week of uncertainty for his side after their thumping 6-2 victory over Udinese.

Atalanta

’s battle against

Torino

on Thursday was canceled because of the Covid-19 outbreak in the Granata squad and it was uncertain whether the Bergamo side would lock horns with

Udinese

this evening. Luckily for Gian Piero Gasperini, they did, gaining all three points in their thumping 6-2 victory.

During an interview with

Sky Sports Italia

after the clash, the La Dea manager talked about the result in Udine.

“It was a week of absolute uncertainty, we didn’t know if and when the match would be played. But I think in the end it’s the best thing to play.

“There was the risk of thinking we were playing against a team of youngsters, but if you look at the number of absentees, maybe we had more, it’s like that for all teams.”

The tactician then spoke about the next Serie A game against Inter.

“It will be a high-level game. Inter are doing very well and we’re in a good moment despite the two stoppages at the end of 2021. Today we started well, we have the Coppa Italia now, a competition we are very fond of.

“Afterwards we’ll think about Inter, I’m not thinking about the Scudetto but I want my team to compete with the team that is the best at the moment.”

Atalanta are sitting 4th in the Serie A table, having played 20 matches. They sit two points behind third place Napoli, who have one game in hand. Atalanta are keen on sealing a spot in the Champions League, but they have to vanquish Roma and Juventus to get to the top four.

The Bergamo side will lock horns with Venezia in the Coppa Italia round of 16 on January 12 before taking on the Nerazzurri on January 12.
