Tuchel: Transfer plans depend on Chilwell’s condition

The Blues boss revealed that his side are working on ‘internal solutions’ to cope without Ben Chilwell but they may have to recruit in the transfer window should he be out for a long time.

Ben Chilwell

tore his ACL and has been out of action since last month, starting his on-field rehabilitation this week.

However, the

England

international may need to go under the knife for his knee if his recovery is prolonged and not going according to his plans.

Should that be the case,

Chelsea

’s

Thomas Tuchel

will have to sign a left-back, as Marcos Alonso is the only senior available for that role.

"

First, we must be sure what we do with Ben,"

Tuchel said (via football.london).

"Then we decide if we go for internal solutions and if we trust that we can overcome this period.

"Everything depends on Ben Chilwell and how long he is out. Then on the alternatives, [we can think] if there is something to do, if there is a chance to do something.

"But we did not start this process because we want to protect ourselves and not lose focus on the most important things. The most important things right now are Ben and Marcos. From there we go."

The Blues have been linked with a move for Lucas Digne, the

Everton

defender. Speculations also suggest that Ian Maatsen might be recalled from his loan spell at Coventry.

While Alonso is Chelsea’s only option at left-back, Tuchel has used midfielder Saul and winger Callum Hudson-Odoi in that position this season.
