Tuchel: Lukaku on the verge of returning from injury
The Belgium international will not play for the Blues in their Premier League clash against Leicester on Saturday; however, he is close to coming back from injury, says Thomas Tuchel.
It will be a full month on Saturday since
Romelu Lukaku
sustained an ankle injury in the
Champions Leaguebattle against Malmo, which marked his 11th appearance this season after re-joining
Chelseaon a club-record fee of £97.5m in the summer.
Thomas Tuchel
revealed that the Belgian may be available for Tuesday’s Champions League match against
Juventusor the Premier League clash against
Manchester United.
"
Romelu is very close to team training, so hopefully he will join the squad on Sunday - let's see how this works out,"
Tuchel said on Friday.
"He's pushing hard and trying hard to come back as soon as possible and we will try on Sunday.
"If everything works out perfectly, if he is in training on Sunday and then on Monday he can maybe join the group on the bench (against Juventus).
"But there are a lot of ifs and I don't want to put pressure on him. He's putting a lot of pressure on himself and we will not rush things."
The Blues first dealt well with his absence, winning clashes over Norwich and Newcastle, but a draw with Burnley in the last game highlighted his absence.
