Neymar ruled out of Argentina clash due to injury

The Brazil star has suffered a thigh injury that prevents him from meeting Lionel Messi in a World Cup qualifier.

Brazil will face

Argentina

in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday. The Selecao are already qualified for the next year's competition, but Lionel Messi and co will need a victory to do so.

The match was expected to mark the reunion of

PSG

teammates Messi and Neymar. However, Neymar has been ruled out of the game due to a thigh injury.

"After training at the Palmeiras Football Academy this Monday morning, athlete Neymar Jr. complained of pain in the adductor region of his left thigh

," Brazil Football Confederation announced.

"Neymar Jr. reported insecurity with the situation and because there was not enough time to carry out complementary exams, the technical committee chose to preserve the player, who will not travel with the Brazilian team's delegation to San Juan, location of Tuesday's game against Argentina."

Neymar provided an assist for Lucas Paqueta's winner against Colombia, which secured Brazil's spot in the Qatar World Cup. The Brazilian FA has not given an exact date for the return of the PSG star.

On the other hand, Messi has just recovered from an injury. The former Barcelona star was brought in as a substitute in Argentina's 1-0 win over Uruguay earlier this week, with Albiceleste boss Lionel Scaloni confirming he will be a starter against Brazil.

After the international break, the pair will return to PSG for their side's upcoming Ligue 1 game against

Nantes

. It remains to be seen whether Neymar can recover in time for that game.
