“Get the jab” Mourinho encourages Xhaka to get vaccinated

The Gunners midfielder has recently tested positive for COVID-19.

Granit Xhaka

expressed his excitement over a new call-up to the national team earlier this week. However, the Switzerland international missed his side’s friendly match against Greece due to testing positive for COVID-19, while he is also a doubt for his side’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Roma boss

Jose Mourinho

, who was heavily linked with a move for Xhaka in the transfer window, has advised the 28-year-old to take the vaccine.

"Get the jab Granit and be safe,"

the Portuguese coach wrote in the comment section of Xhaka's latest Instagram

post

.

The Swiss Football Association's head of communications

Adrian Arnold

says they have recommended Xhaka to take the jab, but he has refused to get vaccinated.

“Granit Xhaka was not vaccinated,”

he was quoted by

Blick

"He’s a player who isn’t vaccinated. We left this up to each player. It’s a personal decision of each player – just like any other person in Switzerland.

“We have issued a recommendation that everyone vaccinates. But he decided for himself personally. And it is also his right not to be vaccinated.”

Following their 2-1 win over Greece, Switzerland will face Italy in a World Cup qualifier on Sunday.
