Villarreal’s Moreno receives 2020/21 Europa League award

The Villarreal striker has been called the Player of the Season in the 2020-21 Europa League.

when they grabbed their first major trophy by defeating Manchester United on penalties in the Europa League final last season.

The Spain international met the back of the net 23 times in the 2020-21 La Liga season but he impressed for Europe as he found the target seven times and contributed 12 assists.

Moreno was named the 2020-21 Europa League Player of the Season, with votes cast by 48 coaches from the teams in the competitions and 55 journalists from across Europe that were chosen.

The 29-year-old clinched 289 points in the process, with Bruno Fernandes (160) and Edinson Cavani (44) coming second and third.

After astonishing performances this summer at Euro 2020 with Spain, Moreno has attracted a lot of attention from many clubs who eyed a move away for the Spanish.

However, after scoring in the battle against Chelsea in the European Super Cup final, he chose to sign a long-term deal that will keep him at the club until 2027.
