Nagelsmann backs Sane after Bayern winger was booed by fans

The former Manchester City star has struggled to live up to expectations at Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich secured their first Bundesliga victory under Julian Nagelsmann on Sunday. The Bavarians

defeated

Koln with a 3-2 result as they climbed to fourth place on the Bundesliga table. Despite Bayern’s win, it was not a happy afternoon for Sane as the winger was booed by the Bayern fans for his underwhelming performance.

Sane was replaced by

Jamal Musiala

at the beginning of the second half, with a small section of Bayern fans applauding him upon his exit from the pitch.

In a post-match interview, Nagelsmann spoke about the game and Sane’s performance.

"Overall, we didn't play a good game in the first half,"

the Bayern manager said.

"I noticed the whistles. It's only right that our own fans support the players.

"There's not a player in the world who doesn't like to put in a top performance. But we don't have to discuss everything internally that happens in the stands.

"It wouldn't make sense for Leroy to be demotivated now. Let's move on."

Nagelsmann praised Musiala, who provided an assist for Robert Lewandowski’s opener in the 50th minute.

"Jamal has played an outstanding game offensively," he said. "His one against one qualities are well known, and he showed them again today."

Bayern will face

Bremer SV

in the first round of their 2021-22 DFB-Pokal campaign on Wednesday.
