Empoli 1-3 Lazio: Sarri’s men fight back to beat newly-promoted Empoli

Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio started their new Serie A campaign with a 3-1 victory over Empoli on Saturday night.

in their Serie A debut and gave their first joy, after an initial scare to the new coach

. The hosts took the lead after just 4 minutes with

’s strike from the left side of the box.

But the Biancocelesti provided an immediate response with

. The Serbian scored the equalizer after two minutes.

before receiving the ball back and sending in a cross.

rose high at the front post and sent the ball to the bottom right corner.

Then Lazio took the lead through

Manuel Lazzari

’s goal in the 31st minute of the game. The 27-year-old received the ball from Milinkovic-Savic and beat goalkeeper

Guglielmo Vicario

one-on-one.

Francesco Acerbi

, who had pounced on a poor clearance, was caught by the goalkeeper. This resulted in a penalty kick for Lazio, with Ciro Immobile stepping up to the spot.

The Italian striker struck the ball into the right corner of the net out of Vicario’s reach to give Lazio a 3-1 lead right before half-time.

Empoli had a few chances in the final minutes of the game, but Lazio defended in numbers.

Lazio will face

Spezia

in their second fixture of the 2021-22 Serie A season, while Empoli will travel to Turin to face

Juventus
