Robertson to miss start of new season with ankle ligament damage

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson is set to miss the start of the new Premier League campaign after confirming ankle ligament damage during the pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao.

The Scotland international limped off the pitch with the help of the medical team before the break after he rolled his ankle in a duel to stop a cross by

Alex Berenguer

.

The injury happens less than a week before

Liverpool

open the league against

Norwich

. The extent of the damage is uncertain and

Jurgen Klopp

will have to wait for the scan result determining how long the Scot will be on the sideline.

Robertson posted on his Twitter account

: ‘Thanks to everyone for the kind messages and support. Scan suggests nothing too major but there’s some ligament damage which will need to mend.

‘I will be grafting every day so I can help the team again sooner rather than later. Good luck to the boys playing tonight #YNWA.’
