Tomala wins gold medal in 50-kilometer walk for Poland

Poland gains a gold medal in a potential Olympic field called 50km walk.

Dawid Tomala has won the gold medal for Poland in the men's 50-kilometer walk Friday at Sapporo Odori Park, but this might be the last Olympic medal in this event.

Olympic 50km walk’s place is unsure in the future of the game as it has already been excised from the Paris 2024 program, but the athletes’ performance on Friday has made the debate about the future of the event proceed in favor of the athletes who want to keep the event in the Olympics.

Tomala led the race for more than two hours as he was ahead of his opponents by more than three minutes at the 40-km mark getting the opportunity to celebrate the gold medal with teary eyes and exhausted feet.

None of the 50km medalists of the event in Rio 2016 were seen on the podium, and Dawid Tomala and the five walkers, who were following him in the last minutes. Jonathan Hilbert from Germany won the silver medal, and Evan Dunfee from Canada, who stood in fourth place in Rio, won the Bronze medal.
