Rafa Benitez gives some updates on James' future at Everton

Rafa Benitez is asking more from James Rodriguez and confirms that the Colombian star is not as fit as he should be.

Following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti from Everton, there are rumors that the South American playmaker will leave the team after only one season at Goodison Park.

Benitez told reporters when asked for his take on the Colombian: "

At the beginning of the pre-season, it is not easy

.

"I think you can see he has the quality on the ball but still his fitness is not what we are expecting, so it is normal at this time.

"So, we will see, obviously, we have more training sessions and more games so we will see how he is going on and every player. It depends on them, if they can make a difference or not.

"But at the moment it is seeing how they progress and how they can improve but nobody can argue about the quality of James."

Ex-Real Madrid midfielder went to the Premier League in 2020 and there was never any doubt about his creative qualities, but he could not make a significant impact in English football. James made 26 appearances for Everton, scoring six goals and eight assists.
