Reus urges his teammates to try harder than ever

Dortmund’s captain says that they should fight harder to defeat Bayern Munich.

Borussia Dortmund’s

captain

Marco Reus

has talked about their battle for the domestic crown and their rivals Bayern Munich, insisting that if they want to end the opponents’ dominance in Bundesliga, they should not miss any chance.

Dortmund has scored 75 goals seeing only Bayern Munich above themselves in the goal-scorers who have scored 99 goals in 2020-21. They finished with ten defeats which makes them the worst among the teams who have finished in the top five places on the table.

"It's down to us,"

said Reus at a pre-season media event ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

"We need to show consistency because Bayern are the team to beat, and everything has to fall into place over the course of a season to topple them.

"They win matches even when they're not playing well. We weren't able to do that last season. We need to start winning ugly - to find a way to win when we're not playing well. Bayern have been able to do that. That's why they've won so many titles over the years."

The last time Dortmund won the Bundesliga was in 2011-12, just before Marco Reus’ return to his childhood club from Borussia Monchengladbach, and Bayern Munich has won the title since then set a new record winning the title nine times in a row.

The battle between two clubs has been a close in the past nine years as Dortmund finished second in six out of those nine years, including 2018-19, when Reus and his teammates finished two points behind the leaders.
