UEFA: Euro 2020 semi-finals and final will not be moved from Wembley
There have been requests for the Euro 2020 final to be veered away from Wembley Stadium, but UEFA has stated that it will be held in London.
Although England's national stadium will host five knockout matches, UEFA revealed last week that it has a "contingency plan" in place if foreign fans are compelled to isolation for ten days due to coronavirus regulations in the UK.
COVID-19 instances have been rising in the UK in recent weeks, fueled by the Delta version initially discovered in India, with a total of 10,633 positive tests on Monday.
According to recent reports, UEFA chairman
Aleksander Ceferin
is willing to shift the semi-finals and final to Budapest, while Italian Prime Minister
Mario Draghi
has urged for the prestigious matches to be held elsewhere with Rome being mentioned as a possibility.
However, European football's authorities have stated that the tournament's three most important matches would be held at Wembley Stadium.
"UEFA, the English FA and the English authorities are working closely together successfully to stage the semi-finals and final of
Euro 2020at Wembley and there are no plans to change the venue for those games," a UEFA spokesman said on Tuesday.
The semi-finals will be held on July 6 and 7, followed by the final on July 11.
