Everton considering eight candidates for new manager including Benitez

Everton are considering eight candidates for their new manager and among them, Rafa Benitez and Nuno Espirito Santo are the favorites to land the job.

Everton

have been looking for a new manager since

Carlo Ancelotti

left to take the charge once again at Real Madrid.

He left earlier in June after 18 months in charge, having finished 10th in the

Premier League

doing his only full season as the Everton manager.

The club are expected to announce a new manager before the next week and they are still discussing the role with several contenders.

The club’s board have considered eight candidates for the role, including former striker and current coach Duncan Ferguson, former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, Lille's Ligue 1 title-winning manager Christophe Galtier, and Belgium manager and previous Everton incumbent Roberto Martinez.

Former Liverpool manager

Rafa Benitez

and former Wolves manager

Nuno Espirito Santo

are now the favorites to land the job.

The prospect of Benitez, who recently managed Chinese Super League club Dalian Professional, getting the job has been met with an unfavorable reaction from some of the club's fans. However, the 61-year-old remains a strong contender for majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri.

Everton are going to begin the 2021/22 season at home to Southampton, with the first round of games scheduled to take place on the weekend of August 14-15.
