Dortmund won’t let Reyna play in the Gold Cup

United States national team’s young star

has joined his team to play in CONCACAF Nations League, but there will be another international tournament called CONCACAF Gold Cup, and

Borussia Dortmund

has confirmed that they will not allow the young prodigy to participate in that competition.

Head of the club’s players’ department,

Sebastian Kehl

, says that the player will join his national team, but he won’t play in the Gold Cup and will be back before that.

"Maybe Gio Reyna will join [the squad] a few days later, but then we will be counting on him,"

"He won't contest the Gold Cup."

But

coach Gregg Berhalter has already declared that he wouldn’t ask his important players to play in both competitions as he understands that these players need some time away from compact competitions.

“One thing I can guarantee you is a guy like Christian Pulisic is not going to be playing Nations League and Gold Cup – it's not going to happen,"

he explained to Extra Time in February

"These guys need a break, so I can imagine them playing one of those tournaments and then getting rest. That's going to be true for a lot of our guys who are going through similar situations right now.”

The Gold Cup tournament will be held in the US, and it will last until two weeks before the beginning of the Bundesliga; and considering that he is going to play in the Nations League too, the young star will almost miss his entire summer break.
