Copa America to be held in Brazil after a chaotic schedule preparation

CONMEBOL has taken urgent action after the two countries initially scheduled to host the event were unable to stage the top competition.

Brazil has stepped in to hold a top regional tournament after

Argentina

and

Colombia

were unable to fulfill their pledges as hosts of the 2021

Copa America

due to civil instability and Covid-19 issues.

With the coronavirus epidemic still doing havoc in South America and Colombia coping with anti-government riots, there was a genuine possibility that an event that had already been postponed would have to be rescheduled.

CONMEBOL

, on the other hand, has taken decisive action and stated that the 2019 tournament hosts will step up once more in the federation's time of crisis.

An official statement reads:

"The CONMEBOL Copa America 2021 will be played in Brazil! Tournament start and end dates are confirmed.

"The venues and the fixture list will be informed by CONMEBOL in the next few hours.

"The oldest national team tournament in the world will thrill the entire continent!"

The competition was originally scheduled for June 2020, but it was postponed for a year owing to the coronavirus epidemic and associated lockdowns.

Argentina and Colombia were willing to wait, but they were still unable to participate.

Between June 13 and July 10, Brazil will host the 47th Copa America.

They're also the proud owners of a famous international trophy, having defeated Peru 3-1 in a stunning home win two years ago.
