Araujo hopes to stay ‘for many years’ at Camp Nou

The Blaugrana defender experienced a remarkable breakthrough campaign under Ronald Koeman last season.

Having left Uruguayan side

Boston River

with a €2 million deal,

Ronald Araujo

joined

Barcelona

in 2018. The versatile defender made his senior debut in Barcelona’s 4-0 win against

Sevilla

in October 2019. Araujo has been given a key role in Blaugrana’s backline under

Ronald Koeman

after spending an impressive 2020-21 campaign.

"I'm very happy to be at Barcelona, I hope to be here for many years and give my best in each season,"

Araujo said.

"I don't know much about the renewal, my representative takes care of that.

"I'm calm, but I hope to be able to continue at the club."

The 22-year-old has featured in 24 matches for Barcelona in their 2020-21 La Liga campaign, scoring two goals and providing an assist. The player paid tribute to Koeman for giving him enough game time.

"With me there has always been a good coach-footballer relationship,"

he said of the Dutch coach.

"Koeman has made me play a lot and I was then able to show that I deserved to play."
