Dzeko: We played as a real team against Lazio

Roma won their derby clash against the Biancocelesti on Saturday.

Roma

were eager to get revenge for their 3-0 defeat against

Lazio

in January and managed to achieve a 2-0 win in their home stadium.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

opened the scoring for the Giallorossi in the 42nd minute. Lazio tried to mount a comeback in the second half, but they were stunned by

Pedro Rodriguez

's long-range strike that secured the victory for

Paulo Fonseca

’s team. In a post-match interview,

Edin Dzeko

dedicated the victory to the team’s coach.

“It gives us a little joy at least, but we knew this has not been one of our best seasons. The derby is always the derby, and especially after losing the first one, we wanted to give our all today to end the season with something positive,”

Dzeko told

DAZN

.

“I don’t like to look backwards too much, as there will always be regret. We saw this as a derby, an important match and finally we played as a real team. We suffered under pressure and deserved the victory.

“The coach said before the game it would be his last at home, so if we could also win it for him. We won it for him, for us, for the fans and the club that is always looking forward with positivity. We worked really hard and will at least have a joyful week.”

Fonseca is set to leave the club at the end of the season. Roma have achieved an agreement with

Jose Mourinho

and the Portuguese coach is already working on the club’s plans for the summer transfer window.

“He has already brought so much in terms of enthusiasm. Roma is a difficult club to work at, so they couldn’t have hired anyone better.”

Roma will play their last match of the season against

Spezia

on May 23. They sit seventh in Serie A with 61 points from their 37 matches.
