UK sporting bodies back Johnson's plan to introduce Covid certificates

Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the UK wants to introduce a Covid certificate so the British can use it to enter gathering events.

As more people are getting vaccinated in England, sports teams are getting ready to host their fans once again in their stadiums. The Carabao Cup final which will be held this month will have 8000 fans who can enter the stadium while the FA Cup semi-final between Leicester and Southampton will see 4000 supporters.

It is reported that Major UK sporting bodies, the FA, Premier League, ECB and RFU have written a letter to the Prime Minister of the UK, Boris Johnson to back his idea of a Covid certificate as an option for helping the fans return to the stadiums.

"Looking ahead to June 21, we support the Government's ambition to secure the full return of fans, without restrictions if possible,"

the letter stated.

"Of necessity, this will depend upon the Government agreeing that it is safe to lessen or drop social distancing requirements.

"It is important that we have certainty as soon as possible on the form this guidance will take so we can plan efficiently and effectively with many big sporting events scheduled for late June and onwards.

"It is right that every possible action is considered to secure this outcome as soon as possible, but only for as long as an unrestricted return is considered unsafe to fans, matchday staff and the wider public.
