Fonseca: we want to go as far as possible
Roma manager was satisfied with the two matched against Sporting Braga and has claimed that the team now plays with confidence.
Paulo Fonseca
was satisfied with the overall performance of his side against
Sporting Bragain the first leg of the round of 32 which resulted in a 5-1 victory for
Roma.
The second leg also resulted in a win for 3-1 win which made Fonseca confident enough to
"go as far as possible".
The 47-year-old believes that every squad member did well. He told
Sky Sport Itali:
“We played with confidence, we won and that was the most important thing, as well as resting some players for the next game. I think we did well.
“I think the attitude has been good. Getting Rick Karsdorp to play as a center-back isn’t easy, but I like it when players make a sacrifice for the team.
“We showed respect to a quality Braga team, but I think we won deservedly.”
Dzekoscored one of the goals of this match but had to get out of the pitch due to a groin injury. The coach expressed his concern for the striker and said:
“We’ll see what happened with Dzeko. I don’t think it’s anything serious, but we need to evaluate it tomorrow and see what the tests say.
“I liked both Dzeko and
Borja Mayoralwhen he came on. I believe it’s very good for the team to have this competition for places in attack, I am satisfied with both.”
Roma will meet Milan on Sunday, and the coach thinks that this Serie-A competition requires the squad to be fresh and rested as Milan is a strong team.
He then was asked whether he thinks any specific team will win the last 16 f the Europa League he answered:
“These are all strong teams. It’s difficult to choose one, we’ll see what the draw says tomorrow, but we want to go as far as possible.”.
