Chiellini praises Juventus teamwork after Napoli win

Juventus captain praised his team-mates after lifting the Supercoppa at the Mapei Stadium following a 2-0 win over Napoli, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata goals.

“I am not tired of winning! It’s a trophy, but we also wanted to make up for Sunday’s defeat to Inter, which still hurts,”

the veteran told RAI Sport.

“I think we played with great unity as a team, both defending and attacking, which isn’t easy against a side like Napoli who are very dangerous on the counter and in their quick passing. The midfield did really well to ensure hardly anything reached us in defence. They made the difference, along with Cristiano and Kulusevski, as they stopped the dangerous runs from even starting.”

About his fifth Italian Super Cup trophy, the 36-year-old defender said:

“We relish this victory, both those of us who won many times before and those who are having their first pieces of silverware.

“It all went well, I lifted another Cup to the sky and it has to be another step in the team’s constant improvement.”

Due to a positive Covid test,

Cuadrado

wasn’t supposed to be in the Bianconeri’s squad. However, he was given the all-clear just hours before kick-off, played 90 minutes, and was arguably man of the match.

“We knew his first swab was negative and hoped the second would confirm it. He’s a champion, but it’s remarkable he managed to be in this shape after 15 days! The sprint he did at the 95th minute to create the second goal was just incredible.”

Chiellini

agrees with

Ronaldo

that the Scudetto race is still open despite their loss to Inter earlier this week.

“We just have to focus on ourselves, take it one game at a time and find some consistency in our results. That’s the hardest thing for a team that has changed a great deal.

“Unfortunately, our position is still inaccurate until we can play this outstanding fixture with Napoli. We hope it’ll be delayed as much as possible, because that’ll mean we have a full fixture list from continuing in every tournament!”
