Köln joins the bid for Yannick Gerhardt
According to Kölner Stadt Anzeiger, the Cathedral City club have joined the race for the Wolfsburg player alongside two other Bundesliga clubs.
As the expiration date of
Yannick Gerhardt’s contract with
Wolfsburgis approaching, three Bundesliga clubs including his former squad,
Köln
, which has begged for his return to
"Domstadt"
, are in pursuit of the player. The 26-year-old, who left Köln in 2015/16 campaign for of €13 million, has been able to have 100 appearances with Wolfsburg in his five-year stay.
After the injury of his teammate,
Xaver Schlager, Gerhardt became one of
Oliver Glasner
’s regular footballers with 25 appearances and four goals scored. But this season his injury has kept him out of the pitch for a while and with his reluctance to extend his stay at Wolfsburg the possibility of a January transfer for the midfielder is very high.
According to
Kölner
article, two other teams beside Köln have shown interest in the player, but their names remain unrevealed. To sign Gerhardt, Köln sporting director Horst Heldt and die Geißböcke need to make a place for the player on the team, otherwise they won’t be able to welcome the footballer back to their club.
In his Wednesday interview with German footballing magazine
Kicker
,
Heldt
said:
"Without naming names, we must focus on reducing quantity first. Then we might be in a position to act."
