Bert Van Marwijk becomes UAE’s head-coach for the second time

A year after being dismissed by UAE’s federation, Dutchman Van Marwijk has been appointed for the role for the second time.

The UAE’s FA has tweeted they have reached an agreement with the 68-year-old to return to the post ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualification round.

Van Marwijk

most famously led the

Netherlands

to the 2010 World Cup finals, where they lost the title to Spain. The Dutchman was sacked from the UAE national team’s role following a 4-2 defeat to

Qatar

during the Gulf Cup last December.

He also led

Saudi Arabia

to the finals of the 2018 World Cup qualification, before leaving the role as his contract expired. He then coached

Australia

at the 2018 World Cup on a short-term deal.

UAE

have lost World Cup preliminaries to

Thailand

and

Vietnam

, hence, they need most from their remaining qualification matches next year.
