Jota: Salah is close to Ronaldo’s level

Sun 07 November 2021 | 12:21

The Liverpool forward believes the Egyptian star is reaching the level of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Mohamed Salah has enjoyed great form this season, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists in his 14 appearances for the Reds. With Cristiano Ronaldo delivering impressive performances for Manchester United upon returning to the club, Salah has been compared to the Portuguese superstar more than before.

In a new interview with

Sky Sports

, Portugal and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota praised Salah for his unique goal-scoring qualities.

“A great player, world class. He is showing his technique to the world this season.

“He is scoring goals for fun. Great goals, individual goals, and for us this is helpful because we have someone on the field who can decide the game, and for the opponents they know they need to be careful and we can then take the spaces that they leave because they are too worried about him.”

Asked about the comparisons between Ronaldo and Salah, the former Wolves forward responded:

“I had that first feeling when I played for the national team with Ronaldo and I think I can put him (Salah) up there to the same standards, though Ronaldo has been doing it for a very long time,

“When they are on the field they are dangerous and can score at any time. And for me that is very useful as I can watch and learn from them.”

Salah is currently the league’s top-scorer with ten goals, chasing the third Premier League Golden Boot of his career. The 29-year-old is set to play for Egypt in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Angola and Gabon.

After the international break, the Reds will face Arsenal in a league game on November 20.
