According to Hans-Joachim Watzke, the Red Devils’ offer for Erling Haaland was “better” than Borussia Dortmund’s, but Mino Raiola ruled out a move to England as he wanted his client to develop more.
Erling Haaland
made a move to
Borussia Dortmundfrom RB Salzburg in 2020, notwithstanding
Manchester United’s offer being more convincing.
The decision has worked for the 21-year-old as he met the back of the net 70 times and contributed 19 assists in 69 matches. He has established himself among the best strikers in the world at such young age.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tried hard to get his signature for United, but based on reports from Dortmund’s chief
Hans-Joachim Watzke
, the development promise at a club that is known for thrusting players to their potentials appeared more tempting than financial aspects of United’s deal.
Watzke told
Sport1
:
"The offer from Manchester United was better. However, Mino Raiola realised that Erling is better off with us.
"People notice that gifted people make a breakthrough with us the quickest. That is a resounding argument for the players, the parents of the players and the advisors. We have no inhibitions about letting 17-year-olds play."
This season, however, Haaland has been dealing with injuries and speculations suggest that he may miss the remainder of the year due to his hip flexor problem.
As per reports from
Bild
, the Norway international has 'torn a muscle bundle in the hip flexor', which may keep him out of action for at least six weeks.
