Van Basten comments on Van de Beek’s ‘big boy’ attitude

Netherlands’ icon talks about the struggles Ajax players may face after leaving de Godenzonen.

Donny van de Beek

joined

Manchester United

from

Ajax

last summer on a £35 million contract, seeking a European glory with the Red Devils.

The promising young midfielder, however, has been out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s favor ever since he began his journey Old Trafford, starting in only two Premier League games.

The legendary Dutch striker

Marco van Basten

, who played for Ajax from 1981 to 1987, has talked about his young compatriot and the challenges he is facing at Manchester.

"It just shows what a great life they have when they play at Ajax,”

Van Basten told

Ziggo Sport

.

"They all think very quickly that they are a big boy here and can make it in other countries, but in the Netherlands, there is a nice competition.

"In a team like Ajax you are really helped, especially in the number 10 position. Then you often see that they go abroad and it is a different story."

The 56-year-old added:

"You have to be able to take care of yourself.

"If you go to a club in another country, you have to be able to present yourself in that team in a way that the others will think: he is one of us and with him we are going to win."
