“I would like to play in a team that fights more” - Almiron admits

The Paraguay international has raised more speculations regarding his future at Newcastle United.

Miguel Almiron

’s comments were like those of his agent’s at the beginning of the season.

Daniel Campos

pronounced that the midfielder would have departed if the pandemic hadn’t hit.

Campos told Paraguayan radio station Futbol 970:

“Miguel Almirón was being observed by Atletico Madrid but no offer was made. When everything returns to normal, Miguel will take a leap in quality.

“Miguel’s work rate at Newcastle and Paraguay has been great. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, he would’ve been elsewhere. Perhaps he would like to play on a team that has a lot of possession. Maybe in June, he’ll make that jump.”

Almiron told ABC Cardinal on Friday:

“I would like to play in a team that fights more.

Newcastle

are going on a run of six winless games as they sit near the relegation zone on the

Premier League

table.

The Newcastle midfielder, however, insisted that he is “happy” and “comfortable” in the North East. Almiron moved to St. James’ Park on a £20 million transfer fee from Atlanta United in 2019.

The 27-year-old has featured in 82 games for his side under the reign of Rafael Benitez and Steve Bruce and met the target 13 times with five of them being scored this season. His contract is due to expire in 2024.

The Paraguay international was about to join his country for the World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia but the Covid-19 raise in South America had the matches postponed.
