Alex Wilkinson will complete his 300th A-League match
The Sydney FC central defender is the fifth player who will have his 300th A-League match when they face Melbourne City on Tuesday.
are hoping to celebrate
Alex Wilkinson
’s 300th
A-Leaguegame with a victory over
Melbourne Cityon Tuesday.
The 36-year-old is going to be the fifth player to have reached this milestone, with the other four being Andrew Durante, Leigh Broxham, Nikolai Topor-Stanley, and Liam Reddy.
Following their clean sheet against
Brisbane Roaron Saturday, Sydney FC are hoping to make up for it in the grand-final rematch. Wilkinson, whose longevity and durability are impressive considering his age, is a motivation for the Sky Blues as they get prepared for the game.
"
It's a bit of a coincidence (City providing the opposition for his 300th appearance) but once the game starts you don't think too much about any of this,
" Wilkinson said.
"
We were unlucky not to get a win against Brisbane ... so if we continue that (form) into the Melbourne City game we're confident we can get three points.
"We've built up a great rivalry with City over the last few seasons."
Melbourne City did not get off to a right start this season under the reign of the new coach
Patrick Kisnorbo
after last year’s 1-0 loss to Sydney.
Following three defeats in a row, they are sitting 10th on the table, with this being their first game after February 7’s 1-0 defeat by
Newcastle.
Rostyn Griffiths and Andrew Nabbout may be back in action after suffering injuries.
"
Over the 90 minutes you can't give them (Sydney FC) half a chance otherwise they could score or punish you,
" Kisnorbo said.
"
We need to try and break them down as best as we can because they've consistently been the best team over a four-year period
."
