Football Memorabilia Auction of the Legend Maradona and His Historic Awards

The Golden Ball’s journey from loss to discovery: The story of Maradona’s lost award and its return to the spotlight

Agut Auction House in France announced on Tuesday its intention to hold a public auction to sell the Golden Ball award won by the late Argentine legend Diego Armando Maradona, which he received as the best player in the 1986 World Cup. The auction house did not disclose the starting price of the auction, which adds excitement and anticipation to the event, especially with the history and value of this award related to a unique sports personality like Maradona.

It is worth mentioning that the shirt worn by Maradona in the quarter-final match of the 1986 World Cup against England was sold in a previous auction for a huge amount, which raises hopes that the new auction will achieve a similar or higher amount. Argentina achieved its second World Cup victory that year, amidst a brilliant performance from Maradona who brilliantly scored a stunning goal with his hand, which increased the value of that historic award.

The Golden Ball that Maradona won had been missing for many years after it was stolen from his deposit box at a bank in Naples in 1989, but it recently reappeared after being purchased by a hobbyist collector in France. Although he did not know its real value at the time, experts were able to identify it and confirm its great importance as part of football history.

With the death of Maradona in 2020, the value of that award increased significantly, as it now has great historical and emotional value for his fans and lovers of the game alike.
