by mutual consent in November and joined the Saudi side

in a deal reportedly worth $75m per year.

Ronaldo’s 12-year-old son also left Manchester United’s academy and will now play at the academy level in Saudi Arabia.

It was previously reported that Cristiano Jr has joined Real Madrid's academy but now

has claimed that he is set to join the Mahd Sports Academy. This academy was founded just two years ago with the mission of becoming 'one of the biggest sporting academies around the world'.

Ronaldo Jr also featured in the Real Madrid youth team and spent two years in Juventus’ academy while his father was playing in Turin.

The president of Sporting Lisbon, Frederico Varandas, has previously hailed the Mahd Academy.

”Sporting Lisbon has seen the emergence of icons such as Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo amongst others, but in reality we are not simply a football club, rather we have more than 50 sports operating within our club that are backed with scouts and coaches roaming the nation in search of talented young players," he said.

“Across our sporting history we have had the knowledge to distinguish large projects capable of propelling young talent such as the project we are witnessing today with Mahd Sports Academy, and we hope to meet in the future.”

Ronaldo could feature in his first club match after leaving Manchester United when the Saudi All-Star team takes on Paris Saint-Germain in a friendly on January 19.
